Behind the Scenes of a Water Park

Overfloat Bassin

At the moment I am in Germany and holding a few presentations about Social Media. For one of them,  my colleague and I went to a water park in Oldenburg. It was a really nice audience and after everything was discussed, we were taken to a tour “behind the scenes”, means the basement or the “heart” of the water park.

I can say, I am very curious (the journalist) with highly interested in how everything is working together (the engineer). Basically we went to places, a normal visitor would never see.

It is completely interesting what you all need to keep in mind when you are running a thing like this spa. There are so many things, I would have never thought about. So I was a bit puzzled about the washers and dryers in the basement but it makes complete sense. You need to wash the towels from the spa, also the ones which you can rent there.

Lots of technique

In the basement there is all of the technique hidden which is used to clean the water, to warm it, to heat the air and lots of other measurement stuff. We would have expected somebody who would take care for all of it but apparently it is running on its own.

In general I learned a lot of how all the things are working. So is the “bad dirt” floating on the water and is brought down to the basement to get cleaned, while the “good dirt” is to heavy and sinks to the ground. No harm there!

Also there are special tanks which are getting used for, if too many people are at the same time in the bath and it is over floating. The water is kept and will be filled back again automatically later, when people are leaving.

Covered from the dust

There are also huge and dark windchannels for the air condition. It is blowing you away if you stand in it. With huge I mean standing and walking inside with four or five people next to each other. Depending on the spot where you are standing, you smell the swim bath (chlorine), the spa (ethereal oils) or fresh cool air (outside).

The basement is build like a labyrinth – for me every corner basically looked the same for me – and I was very surprised when we left the basement through the kitchen and not through the way we entered it.

Another thing is, that Olantis is expanding and constructing a new part for the bath. During the morning suddenly the fire alarm went off. I was impressed and confused – fire in a swim bath? Later we were told that the handymen tried to cut something and the dust made the alarm went off. Hilarious were all the first aid gloves over every single fire alarm to avoid these kind of issues we saw later.

All of my life I love swimming in general and water in special. So it was a real torture to see all the water, the huge slides etc. and cannot jump in. I really need to thank the management of Olantis to show us around!
